The COVID-19 pandemic has made it clear that in order to stop the spread of disease, we need to rethink hygiene best practices. Besides personal and workplace hygiene, the current crisis has also highlighted and reinforced the importance of handheld device hygiene.
Good hygiene practices are a simple but very effective way of reducing the spread of viruses. Handheld devices such as cell phones and portable radios are often shared between multiple users, with close contact to hands and faces. Various studies claim handheld devices can carry multiple pathogens, so during a pandemic it is now more important than ever to clean your devices properly for both your own and other people’s safety.
To help keep your radios clean and your team safe, the Tait technical support team updated the standard set of cleaning instructions for Tait radios with specific instructions for COVID-19.
It covers a 5-step cleaning process that describes how to properly clean your radios, explaining what substances to use, and perhaps more importantly, what substances NOT to use if you want to avoid damaging your radios.
Steps 1-4 describe standard dirt removal procedures, and the added step 5 is COVID-19 specific:
For COVID-19 disinfecting, use a solution of one part household bleach to two parts clean water, on a cloth, to wipe down the radio. Contact time of the bleach solution on the radio required for use against COVID-19 is one minute.
The complete cleaning procedure can be found here on our Tech Support website, along with our other user guides.
Following these instructions can help to minimize the spread of viruses and minimize risk. A Tait dealer in New Zealand rightly commented recently:
COVID-19 is going to change the future of human interaction into any multi-user microphone.
This is certainly true, and one likely change will be stricter handheld device hygiene practices, as the current global health crisis has made it clear that proper hygiene can be vital.
