Christchurch, New Zealand, 21 April 2026
Tait Communications is proud to announce it has become an event partner for the 2026 Firefighter Sky Tower Challenge.
The event on 23 May raises millions of dollars for Blood Cancer NZ each year.
Now in its 22nd year, it involves more than 1,100 firefighters climbing the 1,103 steps in Auckland’s Sky Tower in their firefighting kit. The money raised goes towards funding blood cancer research, raising awareness, and providing support for patients and their families.
As a global leader in critical communications solutions, Tait's products are used by fire and emergency personnel around the world.
Tait Chief Marketing Officer Maria Rowe says the company is proud to support a worthy cause.
“With our strong connection to firefighters, first responders and public safety, this partnership is the perfect fit. Blood Cancer NZ provides vital support for families when they need it most, and we’re proud to play a small part in making that happen.”
In New Zealand alone, eight people are diagnosed with blood cancer or a related blood condition every day. Blood Cancer NZ is the national charity dedicated to supporting patients and their families.
"We're grateful to Tait Communications for their support of this year's Firefighter Sky Tower Challenge,” Blood Cancer NZ Chief Executive Officer Tim Edmonds says.
“The funds raised by our incredible firefighters go directly towards supporting Kiwi families affected by blood cancer and life-changing research. Partners like Tait make that possible."
Tait’s solutions are used by fire and first responder customers across New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States. In New Zealand, Tait radios are being rolled out across the country as part of the Public Safety Network’s new Land Mobile Radio network being delivered by Next Generation Critical Communications.
Tait will be at the Firefighter Sky Tower Challenge in May to support those taking part, including one of its own. As part of the partnership Tait’s Quality, Health, Safety and Environment Coordinator Matthew Dell is participating in the Blood Cancer NZ partner’s team. Donations made by Tait staff to the cause are being matched by the company.
