Tait Tough Test 10: The Fishing Test

Can a Tait portable survive the raw ocean?
By Evan Forester, Tait Tough Tester.

Tait radios are IP67 certified, which means they have been proven to survive below 1 meter of water for thirty minutes. But the IP67 test occurs in a controlled and calm tube of water. We wanted to see how a Tait portable would handle being tossed into the ocean, full of crashing waves, salt, depth, sand, and even the occasional shark.

So without further ado, we hooked the Tait Portable to a fishing line and chucked it as far as we could into the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean. It felt completely absurd to throw a quality piece of technology into the ocean, but we had faith the Tait portable would survive.

We reeled the radio back in, turned it on, and heard those familiar two beeps which let us know that no salt water had seeped in or damaged the portable. Just for good measure, we threw it back into the ocean a few more times.

The portable still works fine to this day. Luckily, no sharks tried to eat the TP9400 as it skimmed across the ocean surface. But knowing our Tait Tough radios, it probably would have survived that too.

Check out the video below to see the sea yourself, and be sure to comment your thoughts or ideas for where you’d like to see Tait Tough go in the future.
